Filipino arrested in Vietnam for allegedly stabbing countryman

The Ho Chi Minh City police are investigating the alleged stabbing of his countryman by a Filipino in a hotel room last week, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
They suspect Coca Arvin Laviste, 41, of attacking Gamboa Jerum Amoren, 36, following an argument at Son Phat Hotel in Thu Duc District.
The newspaper quoted them as saying that the hotel’s receptionist, Dinh Huu Loc, 29, witnessed the fight and stabbing, but the reason for the violent quarrel is not known yet.
The two Filipinos checked in in the morning of September 17, went to their room, and locked the door.
Around half hour later the receptionist, hearing them arguing, went to check and found the room’s glass window broken.
Loc looked into the room and saw Laviste and Amoren fighting each other.
Laviste then stabbed Amoren in the stomach with a knife.
The injured man broke another window and jumped on the hotel’s back roof. He was running when he met Pham Khac Tiep, a 23-year-old college student, who took him to a hospital.
Laviste remained in the room and tried to kill himself with a glass shard when the police came and ordered him out.
When he refused to open the door they had to break into the room, overpower him, and take him away for questioning.
The case is being investigated.
