KUALA LUMPUR: A flashmob by several student activist groups to protest the recent petrol price hike took a shocking turn when a woman began stripping off her clothes near the group at Dataran Merdeka.
As the groups were picketing in the heavy downpour along Jalan Parlimen at 5pm Tuesday, a bald, slightly overweight, elderly woman, pushed through the crowd and positioned herself in the middle of the road.
She then began removing her clothes down to her underwear and shouted at passing motorists, to the horror of the protesters present.
This prompted them to put away their placards until the woman left. They resumed their peaceful demonstration at Dataran Merdeka and reportedly dispersed peacefully at around 7pm.
The demonstration was organised by the Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) Federal Territories division, Angkatan Pembebasan Bangsa Malaya (APBM) and Geng Kotak.
"The protesters were all shocked when they saw that. They were there for a flashmob, but they didn't expect to see a flasher!
"Just so we're clear, this woman was not part of our demonstration" laughed SAMM propoganda director Edy Noor Reduan, when contacted by The Star.
He said the group would continue to stage flashmobs at 5pm daily in Dataran Merdeka in light of the price hike which saw the price of RON95 fuel go up by 20 sen.
