Hard Truth or half truth : Singapore could not have succeed without the PAP...

Let's define success first so that we don't become messy arguments about this later. I put success to mean becoming a developed country..

All countries with east asian majority reached developed status within a few decades except for china which was under communists and kept out of world trade until the GATT agreement in the 80s that allowed investment to flow in and goods to flow out. All these countries were under different systems Taiwan under KMT, Japan under LDP, Korea under various govts, Hong Kong under British rule. ....all succeeded ...and China even under communist party rule can grow so rapidly once they have access to free trade. So what do these countries have in common? Hard working people and these hard working people succeed under various forms of leadership and systems. ...and these countries see their east asian culture and people as the main reasons for success.

However in Singapore, the PAP using the media it controls took always take credit from the people by claiming that the pap is the main reason for the success of Singapore. This is not true. Without the hard work of ordinary Singaporeans, Singapore would not succeed...and this was the essential key to our development.

But economic success is a means to an end. It is meant to uplift the quality of life of the people and this is where the pap system cause failure. The 3 primary benefits becoming a developed country are 1. Unversal healthcare system 2. Lower income inequality 3. Care for the elderly. When you are in a true developed country when you get sick you only need to think about getting well not your medical bills. In a true developed country there is low income gap because wages of workers are high. In a true developed country people would grow old and age gracefully and comfortably not work as cleaners ...

You may point out exceptions here and there on 1 or 2 of these areas but no developed failed on all 3 aspects of delivering quality of life to its people except Singapore and that is the main result of the pap system...failure to deliver quality of life. It is no coincidence we are the least Democratic of developed countries with the most concentrated power in the hands of few elites that control the system to narrowly benefit the few

No matter how hardworking the peasants are, without proper leadership, direction and vision, a country will go nowhere in a hurry.

Singapore without LKY is like Apple without Steve Jobs and Sony without Akio Morita. The workforce and management in these companies didn't suddenly lose their work ethic but both these companies that used to be in the forefront of innovation now find themselves struggling to fend off the competition.

What has changed? The answer is simple.. they don't have a visionary and respected leader to tell them exactly what to work hard for.

Of course we need the honest competent leadership but not specifically pap leadership or pap system.

Its offensive what you say abt Singaporeans. Some may be brainwashed by the controlled media that filters information but that does not mean they lack intelligence. No other people anyway in the world can take in close to 50yrs of propaganda and not be adversely affected but that does not mean they are not intelligent

South Africa had Nelson Mandela - despite having a visionary and respected leader, the country has failed to move forward because the people were not as hard working as our forefathers.

giving credit to the people and increasing their stature is anathema to the PAP. power must only vest in the CEC and not the ordinary citizenry.

I think it is pap delusion rather than deception...at some point they believed it so much in their own superiority in thoght they believed they could transfer their scheme and system on another group of people in Suzhou. ...they became a laughing stock but the Chinese were more than happy to help the pap save face after benefiting from all the money pumped in.

lky was screwed very hard in suzhou, naive or just plain stupid.

the chinese partner started another industrial park in the west side.

taking advantage the infra structure put up by the sg joint venture.

what sg joint venture offered to foreign industries, the west side come out with better terms.

being a partner in the east, everything is known by the local partner.

david lim apartment is in the east side, but ended frequently visiting an apartment in the west, whatever for, hahahhahaa.....

that's even worse - arrogance coupled with ignorance. with deception, at least it was premeditated.

The country went backwards because inferior blacks took over the management of the country from the superior whites.

Thanks for great observation.
In puppies mindset, credits must go to leadership and citizens are to be blame for failures.

I know the truth hurts but in order to move forward, the citizens first have to accept the fact that they are to be blamed for most of the problems that Singapore faces.

Patently false assertion

If there were no operation Cold Store, Singapore under the rule of Barisan Socialis would still reach developed nation status, but with a major difference: it would be a kinder, more democratic Singapore with social safety nets in place, universal health care, national pension scheme and a lower Gini coefficient.

GDP per capita would probably be lower, but the happiness index would be much higher.
