The CAS has confirmed that the Andalusians will sit out the 2013-14 Europa League after failing to meet financial requirements

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that Malaga's ban from European competition has been upheld.

It was announced earlier this season that the Andalusians would face a two-year ban from the Champions League and Europa League after failing to reach financial requirements.

They vowed to fight the decision and later had the sentenced reduced to just one season, but have failed in a bid to have that overturned.

“The (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by Malaga against the decision taken on 21 December 2012 by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Uefa Club Financial Control Body," a CAS statement read.

“As a consequence, the Spanish club are excluded from the 2013-14 Europa League and will have to pay a fine or €300,000.”

Malaga’s finished sixth in La Liga last term, but seventh-placed Rayo Vallecano are awaiting a CAS decision of their own concerning a Uefa license, so Sevilla could take their spot in Europe.

Isco slams Uefa treatment of Malaga

Isco feels Uefa have treated Malaga more harshly than they would other clubs

The 21-year-old has accused European football's governing body of "embarrassing" double-standards after the Liga side's ban from continental competition was upheld

Malaga starlet Isco has slammed Uefa's "embarrassing and shabby" decision to uphold the club's ban from European competition.

On Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the initial sanction imposed by European football's governing body which suspends los Boquerones from competing in the Champions League or Europa League after they failed to adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Isco, who is currently on Spain Under-21 duty in the European championship in Israel, has accused Uefa of being more severe with Malaga than they would with other clubs who commited the same offences.

He wrote on Twitter: "It is embarrassing and shabby. It is completely unfair that they have treated Malaga different than many other teams with many more irregularities and debts.

"They have taken away what we have earned on the field. Neither the players nor fans deserve this. I have no more to say."

The Andalusians, whose sixth-placed finish in the Liga standings last season would have seen them gain entry to the Europa League, will now be stripped of their place in favour of either Sevilla or Rayo Vallecano.
