Two arrested for suspected loanshark activities

SINGAPORE - Two men aged 20 and 23 were arrested on Monday for suspected involvement in loanshark activities.
The suspects, who were arrested in the vicinity of Clementi, are believed to be involved in several cases of loanshark harassment in Jurong and Bukit Panjang housing estates.
Loanshark paraphernalia such as a marker and two paint cans were seized from the suspects. They will be charged in court on Wednesday.
First-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment can be jailed up to five years, fined between $5,000 and $50,000, or caned between three and six strokes.
