a pri sch teacher of my kid was imo unfairly censored for blurting PANG SAI in class when he was using this hokkien dialect to amuse and also making a point to the kids. he was saying that during the WW2, no paper was available and if one needed to PANG SAI, he would have to look for leaves from the banana or other plants to wipe his arse.

well, he didn't mention arse. he just said wipe after he had PANG SAI.

for that he was called to the principal's office and being censored. the reason was one of his students went home and related the story to his parents about the PANG SAI story. the next day, the mother emailed the school to file a complaint against that poor teacher.

was the teacher fairly being warned about using PANG SAI indiscreetly?

your views please.

Hokkein is a very crude dialect. So if using the word pang sai is standard in hokkein. Than its not vulgar lah. In canto or mandarin. We just say go toilet n tat is the end of it. Just my 2 cents

The parent overreacted to the teacher's use of word/language. The principal should have told the parent he will talk to the teacher, and tell the teacher in future to use the word "poop" when talking to little kids. And drop the issue after that.

I would have used the word shit. I take it the story was related in English. And if were the teacher, I'd get a transfer to a better school where the parents are more open minded.

Cheers!

i just realised that in normal neighbourhood schools, the teachers, students, parents and almost everyone is more down to earth. but in branded yayapapaya, everything is so fake!

and all this fakiness was initiated by the then lau goh who himself is a great fake. wtf is he being called "emeritus". up till now i m still clueless so such a lame title.

i don't speak hokkien, but i understand the words PANG SAI from childhood...i was never told it was supposedly rude...
and i don't think it is...
in fact, its one of the words of our singlish culture....
part of it is that we can use several languages/dialect at the same time.... doesn't mean its a rude word...

who are those moronic parents?

precisely my point! they demoralised a good teacher by arrowing him with poison email. to aggravate matter, the principal was siding the fucktard parents instead of being fair to the teacher.

poor guy! i think he's gonna quit....and my son would lose a good teacher :(

I believe it is accepted in Singapore that "emeritus" is the politically-correct word for "seat-warmer."

Cheers!

no wonder lau goh claims that he isn't paid at all. wonder you all know about this? however, he enjoys all the freebies which is better than any jobs.
