SINGAPORE - A medical student could be in trouble after mocking a young patient for apparently getting pregnant five times and undergoing three abortions.

The 22-year-old woman, who describes herself on her Facebook profile as a final-year student in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS), broke the doctor's code of confidentiality when she tweeted about the patient's medical history on April 7.

After mentioning the patient's pregnancies and abortions in her first tweet, the student added: "Haha. Gross right." In a follow-up tweet, she gave more details such as the patient's age, when she had her first baby and her sexually transmitted infections (STI), but did not name her.

She then added: "Dont even wna (want to) look at this patient."

A netizen sent a copy of the student's tweets to citizen journalism website Stomp on Friday, voicing her concerns that they showed her "condescending attitude towards patients, making her unsuitable for practising medicine".

Identified only as Stomper C, she wrote:

She added that the posts was about someone's private and confidential information checked and that Miss Chia's condescending remarks made her unsuitable for the practice of medicine.

lianbeng wonders how come only got her age 22-year-old woman but no name no address? since she can expose patient's confidential information why we cannot know all her details?

The National University of Singapore (NUS) medical student who tweeted about a patient's medical history has been suspended from clinical postings until investigations are over.

The final-year student has also been warned and counselled, and will face disciplinary action pending the outcome of the ongoing probe, said the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

From their third year of studies onwards, the school's medical students go through full-day clinical postings in hospitals, which last between two and eight weeks.

"The student is very remorseful over the actions and apologises for causing offence and for any infringement," a spokesman for the school told The Straits Times.

Reminded me of one former SAF MO, Dr Chow Dih.He was harsh on the NS Men who went to see him and many were given M&D and disciplined for malingering as a result. The fear of being labelled as a malingerer was so great that many actually avoided going to see the MO.

In 1990 Dr Chow Dih was convicted of six charges of cheating.
Retribution or "natural law" at work?
How about those make their own people suffer and favour foreigners instead-their Just Deserts will be served.
