Man arrested for robbing student of her mobile phone

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for a case of robbery in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 last month.
On March 31, 2013 at about 11.30pm, an 18-year-old female student was walking along a footpath in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 when the culprit approached her, asking to borrow her mobile phone.
During the conversation, he suddenly grabbed her by the neck and robbed the victim of her mobile phone before escaping on foot.
The suspect was described to be in his 30s, about 1.8 metres tall with fair complexion. He was also seen wearing a white polo T-shirt with blue and red horizontal stripes.
Armed with a clear description of the suspect, officers from Jurong Police Division conducted in-depth investigations and extensive ground enquires, and managed to establish the identity of the culprit. He was subsequently arrested along Hong San Walk on April 18 at about 2pm.
The suspect will be charged in court on April 20. If found guilty, he faces between 3 years and 14 years of jail, and caning of not less than 12 strokes.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim commended his officers for their excellent investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the culprit.
