SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for suspected housebreaking in Tampines.
On March 19, 2013, a resident placed her iPad on a table beside the window facing the common corridor. While she was in the kitchen, she heard noises and saw a hand reaching in through the window and taking away her iPad from the table. She shouted but the culprit managed to escape with the device.
Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive investigations and managed to trace the iPad which had been sold to a mobile phone shop. The suspect was subsequently arrested on April 17.
He was charged in court on Thursday for housebreaking and theft, and faces up to 10 years' imprisonment if found guilty.
Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police How Kwang Hwee commended his officers for their excellent investigations, which led to the arrest.
DAC How also advised residents of common corridor flats not to leave their valuables near corridor-facing windows and to secure their windows to prevent any theft.
