SINGAPORE: Fourteen people have been arrested for suspected involvement in criminal activities in the eastern part of Singapore.

They are suspected of having been involved in activities involving drugs, secret societies, contraband cigarettes, as well as loansharking.

They were nabbed during a multi-agency operation by the police, Central Narcotics Bureau, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Health Sciences Authority, National Environment Agency, National Parks Board and Singapore Customs.

During the 10-hour operation, which started at 8pm on Saturday, 660 people were checked at locations in Geylang, Changi, Pasir Ris and East Coast Park.

Summonses were issued to illegal hawkers in Geylang.

SINGAPORE - 14 people have been arrested following a multi-agency operation in the eastern part of Singapore from December 29 to December 30.

The operation, which lasted 10 hours, involved 170 officers and was led by Bedok Police Division and supported by officers from Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA), Health Sciences Authority (HSA), National Environment Authority (NEA), National Parks Board (NParks) and Singapore Customs.

Drug offenders, secret societies, immigration offenders, unlicensed money lenders, peddlers of sexual enhancement products and contraband cigarettes and illegal hawkers were targeted.

Over the course of the operation, 660 persons were checked at locations across Geylang, Changi, Pasir Ris and East Coast Park. Fourteen subjects were arrested for offences including suspected involvement in drug activities, secret societies, possession of contraband cigarettes, immigration offences and unlicensed money lending offences. Summones were also issued by NEA to illegal hawkers at Geylang.

Investigations against the subjects are being carried out.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) How Kwang Hwee said: "The Police will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies in our relentless efforts to clamp down on illegal activities".
