SINGAPORE - Police arrested an 18-year-old male teenager for breaking into a house located at Holland Grove View.

On Dec 27, at around 6am, officers received a report of the said break-in.

Cash, a mobile phone, a cashcard and other valuables worth up to $800 were taken from the residence.

Officers patrolling the vicinity spotted the suspect and detained him for questioning.

After which, he was arrested and the stolen items were retrieved from his possession.

He will charged for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night.

If convicted, he faces a jail term up to 14 years.

In a police statement, the public is advised to adopt the following measures to guard their homes against break-ins:

- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled

- Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even if for a short while;

- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition;

- Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box; and

- If going away for a prolonged period, suspend the newspaper subscription and arrange for someone to clear the mail regularly.
