Oven-Fried Fish


For variety, try this heart-healthy fish recipe with any kind of fish.
2 lbs fish fillets
1 Tbsp lemon juice, fresh
1/4 cup skim milk or 1% buttermilk
2 drops hot pepper sauce
1 tsp garlic, fresh, minced
1/4 tsp white pepper, ground
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 cup cornflakes, crumbled or regular bread crumbs
1 Tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing baking dish)
1 lemon fresh, cut in wedges


Preheat oven to 475° F.
Wipe fillets with lemon juice and pat dry.
Combine milk, hot pepper sauce, and garlic.
Combine pepper, salt, and onion powder with cornflake crumbs and place on a plate.
Let fillets sit in milk briefly. Remove and coat fillets on both sides with
seasoned crumbs. Let stand briefly until coating sticks to each side of fish.
Arrange on lightly oiled shallow baking dish.
Bake 20 minutes on middle rack without turning.
Cut into 6 pieces. Serve with fresh lemon.

Mediterranean Baked Fish

This dish is baked and flavored with a Mediterranean-style tomato, onion, and garlic sauce to make it lower in fat and salt.
2 tsp olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
1 can (16 oz) whole tomatoes, drained (reserve juice) and coarsely chopped
1 bay leaf
1 clove garlic, minced
1 C dry white wine
1/2 C reserved tomato juice, from canned tomatoes

1/4 C orange juice

Heat oil in large nonstick skillet. Add onion, and saute over moderate heat 5 minutes or until soft.
Add all remain ing ingredients except fish.
Stir well and simmer 30 minutes, uncovered.
Arrange fish in 10x6-inch baking dish; cover with sauce.
Bake, uncovered, at 375º F about 15 minutes or until fish flakes easily.

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are
highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles
with water in them as these release dioxins from the plastic.
Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program manager at Castle
Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health haza! rd. He talked about
dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be
heating our food in the microwave using plastic
containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the
combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the
food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using
glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same
results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant
ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated
in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the
paper.
It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.
He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved
away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the
reasons.
Also, he pointed out that Saran wrap is just as dangerous when
placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked,
the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic
wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Stir-frying is a quick and easy way to prepare meals that are tasty, colorful and nutritious. But what happens if you plunge right in and start stir-frying without learning the basics? Here are the top six surefire ways to spoil a stir-fry.
1) Don’t Prepare All the Ingredients Ahead of Time
Stir-frying is a speedy business – it can take as little as 7 minutes. That doesn’t leave any extra time for cutting meat, chopping garlic, or mixing sauce ingredients. Preparing all the ingredients before you start stir-frying allows you to focus on the task at hand - stirring and moving food around in the wok.
2) Rinse, But Don’t Drain, Vegetables Before Stir-frying
Stir-frying is all about fast cooking with high heat. Soggy vegetables lower the wok’s temperature and won’t cook properly. (The excess water may also splatter). An ideal way to prepare vegetables is to rinse them earlier in the day and leave to drain in a colander. If that’s not an option, you can quickly pat the vegetables dry with a paper towel. Don’t worry about getting the vegetables too dry, though – you want them to retain a bit of moisture.
3) Don’t Preheat the Wok.
Adding oil to a cold wok is a surefire way to guarantee the cooked food will stick to the bottom of the wok. (The food may also not be cooked through). Always preheat your wok for at least 30 seconds before adding the oil. Not sure if the wok is hot enough? Try holding the palm of your hand 2 - 3 inches above the wok's surface. You should be able to feel the heat.
4) Stir-fry All the Ingredients Together
Meat and seafood are normally cooked separately from vegetables – you’ll often find recipes calling for the meat to be partially cooked, removed from the wok, and then added back in the final stages of stir-frying. For vegetables, the thicker, denser vegetables are normally added first, as they will take longer to cook. (If you’re using a stir-fry mix, don't worry - the package should contain vegetables with roughly the same thickness).
5) Fill ‘er up! - Load up the Wok
A crowded wok can’t do its job properly. Overfilling the wok keeps the food from cooking quickly, and may turn your stir-fry into a braise, as the moisture from all that excess food is released (all food contains a certain amount of moisture). Not exactly a culinary disaster, but not great either. If you find a recipe calls for more meat than your wok can comfortably hold, or if you're doubling up a recipe, cook the food in 2 batches.
6) Don’t Stir the Ingredients
Stir-frying is all about quickly moving and stirring the food to make sure all of the ingredients are thoroughly exposed to the heat. There are exceptions: when cooking meat, you’ll want to lay it out flat and let it brown for about 30 seconds before you begin moving it about. For the most part, though, be sure not to forget the "stir" in stir-frying!

To help ward off dementia, train your brain


Timing is everything, comedians say.

It's also important when it comes to taking care of your brain. Yet most of us start worrying about dementia after retirement - and that may be too little, too late.


Experts say that if you really want to ward off dementia, you need to start taking care of your brain in your 30s and or even earlier.

"More and more research is suggesting that lifestyle is very important to your brain's health," says Dr Paul Nussbaum, a neuropsychologist and an adjunct associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine "If you want to live a long, healthy life, then many of us need to start as early as we can."

So what can you do to beef up your brain - and possibly ward off dementia? Nussbaum, who recently gave a speech on the topic for the Winter Park (Fla.) Health Foundation, offers 20 tips that may help.

1. Join clubs or organizations that need volunteers. If you start volunteering now, you won't feel lost and unneeded after you retire.

2. Develop a hobby or two. Hobbies help you develop a robust brain because you're trying something new and complex.

3. Practice writing with your nondominant hand several minutes every day. This will exercise the opposite side of your brain and fire up those neurons.

4. Take dance lessons. In a study of nearly 500 people, dancing was the only regular physical activity associated with a significant decrease in the incidence of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. The people who danced three or four times a week showed 76 percent less incidence of dementia than those who danced only once a week or not at all.

5. Need a hobby? Start gardening. Researchers in New Zealand found that, of 1,000 people, those who gardened regularly were less likely to suffer from dementia. Not only does gardening reduce stress, but gardeners use their brains to plan garde n they use visual and spatial reasoning to lay out a garden.

6. Buy a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day. Walking daily can reduce the risk of dementia because cardiovascular health is important to maintain blood flow to the brain.

7. Read and write daily. Reading stimulates a wide variety of brain areas that process and store information. Likewise, writing (not copying) stimulates many areas of the brain as well.

8. Start knitting. Using both hands works both sides of your brain. And it's a stress reducer..

9. Learn a new language.. Whether it's a foreign language or sign language, you are working your brain by making it go back and forth between one language and the other. A researcher in England found that being bilingual seemed to delay symptoms of Alzheimer's disease for four years. (And some research suggests that the earlier a child
learns sign language, the higher his IQ - and people with high IQs are less likely to have dementia. So start them early.)

10.. Play board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly. Not only are you taxing your brain, you're socializing too. (Playing solo games, such as solitaire or online computer brain games can be helpful, but Nussbaum prefers games that encourage you to socialize too.)

11. Take classes throughout your lifetime. Learning produces structural and chemical changes in the brain, and education appears to help people live longer. Brain researchers have found that people with advanced degrees live longer - and if they do have Alzheimer's, it often becomes apparent only in the very later stages of the disease.

12. Listen to classical music. A growing volume of research suggests that music may hard wire the brain, building links between the two hemispheres. Any kind of music may work, but there's some research that shows positive effects for classical music, though researchers don't understand why.

13.. Learn a musical instrument. It may be harder than it was when you were a kid, but you'll be developing a dormant part of your brain.

14. Travel. When you travel (whether it's to a distant vacation spot or on a different route across town), you're forcing your brain to navigate a new and complex environment. A study of London taxi drivers found experienced drivers had larger brains because they have to store lots of information about locations and how to navigate there.

15. Pray. Daily prayer appears to help your immune system. And people who attend a formal worship service regularly live longer and report happier, healthier lives.

16. Learn to meditate. It's important for your brain that you learn to shut out the stresses of everyday life.

17. Get enough sleep. Studies have shown a link between interrupted sleep and dementia.

18.. Eat more foods containing omega-3 fatty acids: Salmon, sardines, tuna, ocean trout, mackerel or herring, plus walnuts (which are higher in omega 3s than salmon) and flaxseed. Flaxseed oil, cod liver oil and walnut oil are good sources too..

19. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables mop up some of the damage caused by free radicals, one of the leading killers of brain cells.

Panadol

When we were in Mumbai (India) a learned History professor there told us that the Parsees (A sect in India) used to take their Dead & lay them to rest @ huge 'Wind Towers' (round structures that Look like Giant Water reservoirs, but open to the air) ... The Parsees never buried their dead, nor burned them. They leave them to the Birds of Prey (Vultures) to be eaten thus completing the Life Cycle ... Around 10 years ago, it was noticed that the Birds are dying off. Not many of them were left to consume the dead bodies (which started rotting away) ... So, the Parsees had to change this mode of dealing with their dead. BUT, they wanted to know why a Custom that survived for hundreds of years, had to be suspended?!! They did Autopsies on Dead Birds (they were dying in huge #'s) ... What was the Culprit??? PARACETAMOL (aka PANADOL) ... !!

People started consuming pain-killers a decade ago, Panadol STAYS in the Liver for a Long Time ... It ultimately accumulated in the Birds' systems & they couldnt cope with it!

PANADOL

My husband was working in a hospital as an IT engineer, as the hospital is planning to set up a database of its patients and he knows some of the doctors quite well. The doctors used to tell him that whenever they have a headache, they are not willing to take PANADOL (PARACETAMOL).

In fact, they will turn Herbal Medicine or find other alternatives. This is because Panadol is toxic to the body, and it harms the liver. According to the doctor: Panadol will remain in the body for at least 5 years!! ....

And according to the doctor, there was an air-hostess who consumed lots of Panadol as she needed to stand all the time and work under lots of pressure. She's now in her early 30's, and she is undergoing kidney cleaning (DIALYSIS) every month.
Whenever we have a headache, that's because it is due to the electron/Ion imbalance in the brain.

Some alternative solution to cope with this matter is .... Drink lots of water !!

Another method will be to submerge your feet in a basin of warm water so that it brings the blood pressure down from your throbbing head.

As Panadol is a pain killer, the more Panadol you take, the lesser would be your threshold for pain (your endurance level for pain). We all will fall ill as we age.

Imagine that we had spent our entire life popping quite a substantial amount of Panadol (Pain Killer), when you need to have a surgery or operation, you will need a much more amount of general anaesthesia.

The thought is scary enough to turn me to Herbal Medicine or other healthier alternative. Value your health, value your life, THINK TWICE before you easily pop that familiar pill into your mouth again.

No wonder in the olden days BP problem was never heard of. WE didn't have the Iodized Salt !!

Switch to Rock Salt

STRESS RELIEF. Is salt bad for hypertension?

What is bad for hypertension is iodized salt, which is a fake salt. It is made up of only 3 synthetic chemicals, sodium, chloride, iodine. It does not melt in water (glistens like diamonds), does NOT melt in the body, does not melt in the kidneys, gives kidney stones, and raises blood pressure. However, it is the salt favoured by the drug-based doctors who say it is very clean and sanitary, pointing to how white it is and how it glistens like diamonds. The fake salt is man-made in a factory.

The true salt, which comes from the sea and dried under the sun and commonly called rock salt, has 72 natural minerals including natural sodium, chloride, iodine. It melts in water, melts in your body, melts in the kidneys, does not give kidney stones, and best of all ,brings down blood pressure and stops/prevents muscle cramps, numbness, tingling.

If you get muscle cramps in the lower legs at night, just take a half teaspoon of rock salt and a glass of water, and the cramps with its horrific pain will be gone in 5 minutes.

The highest BP that came my way was in a woman who had a BP of 240/140 and came to my house at 10:30 pm on what she said was a matter of "life and death" because the high BP was already giving her a crushing headache, especially the back of her head. She could not walk up the 6 shallow steps to my porch. Two men had to help her, one on each side, in addition to the cane that she needed to prop herself up.

I muscle tested her and found that she had her BP of 240/140 and the crushing pain in the head, her body's water content was only 6% (normal is 75%), salt content was zero, potassium was 96%deficient, and cardiac output (blood flow from the heart) was only 40% (normal is 100%). So the blood supply to the head was 60% deficient.

I gave her one 6" long green chili (hot pepper), 1 raw ripe saba banana, 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 8-oz glasses of tap water.
The chili was to normalize cardiac output and shoot blood to the head, the saba banana was for the potassium deficiency and to have food in the stomach because pepper will give a stomach ache if the stomach is empty, and the rock salt and the water were the first aid for her severe dehydration which was causing her arteries to be dry and stiff and her blood to be thick and sticky, because they were dehydrated.

After 5 minutes, she said, "The pain in my head is gone." We took her BP, it was 115/75, and cardiac output was up to 100%.

She walked out of the house to her car without the men helping her and without the cane.

She has been taking 2.5 teaspoons of rock salt, 15 glasses of water, 6 Saba bananas and 3 of the long pepper daily since then (beginning
September 2009), and her BP and cardiac output have been normal since then.

Two months later, in November, at a PCAM round table forum on hypertension in Club Filipino, she gave her testimony, followed by her brother who said that she grew 2", because the salt and the water had refilled her compressed disc spaces in her vertebral column. The disc spaces had become compressed because they had become dehydrated since the fluid filling up these discs are 95% water.

Why salt? Because without salt the body cannot retain water no matter how much water is drunk. You will still be dehydrated because you will just keep urinating and sweating the water out.

This is not an isolated case. When BP is rising high but there is little or no headache but there is stiffness of shoulder and neck muscles, all you need to normalize the BP and remove the stiffness and the pain in 5 minutes is 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 glasses of water. If there is crushing pain in the head, it means blood supply tothe head is lacking, and you will need the chili to normalize it andshoot blood to the head and remove the extreme pain.

Black rice - revered in ancient China but overlooked in the West - could be the greatest 'superfoods', scientists revealed today. The cereal is low in sugar but packed with healthy fibre and plant compounds that combat heart disease and cancer, say experts. Scientists from Louisiana State University analysed samples of bran from black rice grown in the southern U.S. They found boosted levels of water-soluble anthocyanin antioxidants.

Anthocyanins provide the dark colours of many fruits and vegetables, such as blueberries and red peppers. They are what makes black rice black'. Research suggests that the dark plant antioxidants, which mop up harmful molecules, can help protect arteries and prevent the DNA damage that leads to cancer. Food scientist Dr Zhimin Xu said: 'Just a spoonful of black rice bran contains more health promoting anthocyanin antioxidants than are found in a spoonful of blueberries, but with less sugar, and more fibre and vitamin E antioxidants.


'If berries are used to boost health, why not black rice and black rice bran? Especially, black rice bran would be a unique and economical material to increase consumption of health-promoting antioxidants.' Centuries ago black rice was known as 'Forbidden Rice' in ancient China because only nobles were allowed to eat it. Today black rice is mainly used in Asia for food decoration, noodles, sushi and desserts. But food manufacturers could potentially use black rice bran or bran extracts to make breakfast cereals, beverages, cakes, biscuits and other foods healthier, said Dr Xu. When rice is processed, millers remove the outer layers of the grains to produce brown rice or more refined white rice - the kind most widely consumed in the West. Brown rice is said to be more nutritious because it has higher levels of healthy vitamin E compounds and antioxidants. But according to Dr Xu's team, varieties of rice that are black or purple in colour are healthier still. They added that a overall. 'It's great if you can eat more of some groups of healthy foods, like having five portions of fruit and vegetable a day, but there is still no conclusive evidence that 'super foods' alone make a real difference to your heart health.'

Duct tape cures warts

Duct tape: Is there anything it can't do? Some people would go to great lengths to have warts removed. Typically, painful options like cryotherapy, acid preparations, laser therapy, heat, and tape occlusion are the treatment of choice, but even cryotherapy (burning the wart off with liquid nitrogen) has only a 60% success rate. Comparably, the painless practice of applying a small piece of duct tape seems to provide about an 85% success rate.

Simply apply a small piece of duct tape to the wart and leave it on for a week. Then wash the area and use a pumice stone to scour the affected area, and reapply the tape for another week. Repeat until the wart is gone.
