Once, a fellow colleague at the Singapore Navy approach our commander, a staunch Christian, to buy a charity ticket for a Buddhist organization. The commander flatly refused saying that as a Christian, he would not donate to something he does not believe in. Today, he is a Reverend. And, all along I thought all religions show passion for other religions. Apparently, this is not so, and there are many fanatics out there including those started cult teaching in Buddhism; like FalunGong itself as well. http://www.buddhismaustralia.org/cults.htm

I am not sure if that Reverend is as passionate today which is exemplify by the Buddhist Lodge President, Lee Bock Guan.

Title : Charities see spike in take-up rate of free meals
By : Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia
Date : 31 Dec 2008 1705 hrs (GMT + 8hrs)

SINGAPORE: While many may have been feasting during this festive period, those who cannot afford it have not been forgotten either.

The Buddhist Lodge has been giving out food, buffet-style, every day for the past 30 years.

Since the economic downturn, it has seen more people showing up - at least a 35 per cent increase in numbers since the beginning of the year, with a significant number of them being foreign workers.

The Lodge serves up on average 1,400 meals daily, and this number can go up to 6,000 over the weekend.

Despite the downturn, the Buddhist Lodge said people have not cut back on their donations, and this has allowed the Lodge to pass on any excess to other charities.

One such beneficiary is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Upper Serangoon.

The church started giving out meals from April this year. It distributes packed meals, ensuring no one goes hungry in the community.

Kindness and empathy should comes from one's heart & nature and not because of religious teachings whatsoever.
In today contexts, people are killing each other because of differences in religion beliefs. So sad... Who's to say who is right and who is wrong or which is better than the other...
Hope in 2009 people can learn to live in harmony..

i suppose religion is the bogeyman for man's sinful desires. what an easy solution to men problems. so i wonder how many crimes in sgp are committed by religious people who have very strong faith?

can we say world war 2 are motivated by religion who caused millions of sufferings in the world.

Germany - Catholic Hitler? LOL...
Japan - Shinto a variant of Buddhism - Hirohito?? LOL...

an non religious figures like Stalin and MaoZheDong who caused more millions of sufferings in the world.

not to mention this guy he believes he is God, that is what caused hundreds to loose their lives.

Sorry to say but I disagree on that point, the military regime of Japan is rallying their imperialist ambition behind the facade of the Emperor which is hailed as the son of heaven and hence, religion is a driving force behind the carnage and desolation of the war.
