SINGAPORE - Watch out for crime while celebrating Hari Raya at the Geylang Serai bazaar, say the police.
Large crowds and heavy traffic are expected in the area on Saturday evening and on Sunday, they said.
Their advice: Never leave your handbag, wallet or mobile phone unattended, don't be distracted by strangers creating a commotion, bumping into or spilling something on you, avoid carrying large amount of cash and don't let children wear too much jewellery. It's better not to keep your wallet in a back pocket. Handbags should be in front of you, fastened or zipped at all times.
To avoid molest, the police said: Move away if someone stands or sits too close, go around in groups and stay close to friends.
"If you are molested, call for help immediately by shouting or seek help from people nearby to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit. Call 999 as soon as possible," the police release said.
Auxiliary police will be deployed and parking regulations strictly enforced.
