SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has arrested 85 suspected drug offenders in an islandwide operation spanning two days.

Seventy-eight of them were arrested over Tuesday and Wednesday for suspected drug abuse and seven for their involvement in drug trafficking.

An assortment of drugs was seized, including 21 grammes of heroin, 4 grammes of "ice", 4 grammes of cannabis and some Ecstasy and ketamine.

CNB arrested a 45-year-old Singaporean man at a HDB unit in Circuit Road. He is believed to be one of the traffickers. A one-gramme sachet of heroin was recovered.

Another 61-year-old Singaporean man was arrested in the vicinity of the same unit for suspected drug abuse.

A second trafficker, a 56-year-old Singaporean woman, was arrested at a coffee-shop at Aljunied Crescent. CNB officers recovered 11 straws of heroin from her handbag.

A 46-year-old Singaporean man with the woman was also arrested for suspected drug abuse.

CNB officers also netted two Singaporean men, aged 43 and 44, suspected to be drug abusers. They were believed to be drug clients of the 56-year-old woman.

The four suspected drug abusers will be investigated for drug consumption.

Another suspected trafficker, a 24-year-old Singaporean woman, was arrested at a HDB flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

CNB officers recovered three straws of heroin, two packets of "ice" and some drug trafficking paraphernalia, such as a weighing scale and empty straws.

Two suspected abusers, a 60-year-old Singaporean man and a 43-year-old Singaporean woman, were also arrested in the flat.

CNB officers raided another flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. They had to force their way into the flat as the occupant had refused to open the door despite repeated warnings.

The suspected drug trafficker, a 38-year-old Singaporean man, was arrested. Straws of heroin were recovered from the man's jeans pocket.

The four suspected drug traffickers are being investigated for trafficking in a controlled drug.

If convicted, the men face at least five years' jail and five strokes of the cane, while the women will face a minimum five-year jail sentence.
