why korea is such a successful country

Korea was under Japanese and Chinese rule in their "modern " history right up to the end of world war two and almost had their culture and identity taken away from them. When they gained self-rule, they vowed fervently to rise above their previous rulers and worked darn hard to achieve that, which they have (at least the south). Prior to this, they were OEM for Jap biggies like Mitsubishi and Sony, learned everything they could from them, and with their own effort, even surge ahead of them is some areas. It was a national effort.
Christianity for them came mostly from the Yankees, and although growing in popularity, is still a minority among them.
Like Sgns, Koreans have NS too and in a drinking bout with some of them once, I found out many of them disliked being in the military too. But their situation is totally different from Peesai.

South Korea sucess can be attributed to the Confucian culture that also saw the economic sucess of Japan,Taiwan,Spore n in many ways,China.
My Korean friends rubbish the warped reason some ppl attributed to Christianity. Christianity has no part to play as the economic success were a result of the hardworking korean ppl whom 75% are not Christians. In fact,Korean business leaders learnt from the success of the Japanese who started like the Koreans did today and these leaders aren't christians too.
In fact,ppl in SK dislike ppl who uses religion for political n economic purposes. There was a huge consolidated outcry against Christianity when korean hostage were killed in Afghanistan n when countries voiced their dismay at extremist korean missonaries proseltyising in their country. Ppl were disapproving of President Lee open display of religious use in politics.
It is normal that some christians tried to use christianity for korea economic success in an attempt to proselytise to other East Asian countries. However,these reasons are basically rubbish as East Asian posessed strong work ethics as a result of their traditional values influenced by Confucianist culture.
