A housewife used fake gold jewellery to flush out a thief and discovered it was her daughter's friend.
On Thursday, former clinic assistant Uthayamalar Seeverigiahnam, 26, was fined $5,000 and jailed seven weeks for theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery.
A district court heard that after she visited the Yishun flat of Ms Kuppusamy Sivaranjini, 22, a student, on Feb 23, 2011, the family realised that a bunch of house keys was nowhere to be found.
On March 20, the family returned home from a two-day cruise and the mother found jewellery missing from a drawer in the master bedroom.
