A lorry driver was jailed for one week and banned from driving for three years on Friday for causing the death of a pedestrian.
Muhammad Jufri Sukaimi, 38, who had pleaded guilty, came to a stop at the junction of Orchard Road and Grange Road when the traffic light signal was red at about 6.30am on March 11, 2011.
When the lights turned green, he proceeded to make a right turn and hit Madam Han Ai Lian, 61, who was crossing about 6m away from the pedestrian crossing line. Madam Han, a cleaner, was on her way to work at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard.
She died two days later from bleeding due to blunt force injury to the pelvis and left lower limb.
