Indonesian maid jailed 12 months for stealing $12,600

An Indonesian maid was jailed a total of 12 months on Wednesday for stealing her employer's ATM card and making unauthorised withdrawals.
Ratna Muhammad, 34, stole a total of $12,600 from her employer, Madam Mah Puay Hoon, 86, on 72 occasions between Oct 3, 2011 and March 22 this year.
She admitted to five counts of theft of the ATM card from Madam Mah at her Namly Avenue home, and another five counts of stealing between $400 and $1,000 from ATMs in Holland Village and National University Hospital, Kent Ridge. The total amount in the proceeded charges is $2,800.
A district court heard that she would steal Madam Mah's ATM card from her wallet, withdraw money from the ATM and remit it to her family in Indonesia.
