SINGAPORE - A man who was trying to get a deferment on his bank instalment repayment ended up in hot water after making a false police report.
The 32-year-old made a police report on April 23 claiming that he was robbed of $1,700 at knife point.
After investigations and follow-up interviews, police discovered numerous discrepancies in the man's story.
During police questioning, the man broke down and admitted that he had hoped to get a police report to defer paying his loan.
For giving false information to a public servant, the man can face up to a year in jail or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
