Man jailed 3 years and 8 months for grievous hurt

An unemployed man threw two punches on an acquaintance, who fell to the ground and died later of a head injury, a court heard.
Veerasamy Balan was jailed a total of three years and eight months on his 51st birthday on Tuesday for grievous hurt and failing to report for an urine test.
A district court heard that Veerasamy, who speaks Hokkien, was drinking with Mr Choo Siang Boon, 45, and other friends at Tekka Market on July 13 last year.
Several hours later, he asked Mr Choo to look after his belongings which consisted of a bag and a mobile phone as he wanted to withdraw cash from an automated teller machine nearby.
