Talent mobility can tackle skills gap in IT sector, say experts

SINGAPORE: Recruiting experts said the mobility of talent across the Asia Pacific can help ease the skills shortage in the IT sector.

They added that such a strategy gives employers an edge in an increasingly competitive skills market and significantly increases the talent pipeline.

Hays Information Technology also found that it is widely recognised that migration is vital to ensuring economic growth and overcoming skills shortages.

But the recruiting firm added that while employers may be slowly embracing this solution, it is far from universally accepted.

It is also a topic that generates heated discussion.

The problem(s) in Spore has been cause by the PAP mismanaging the Spore economy & now they expect foreigners to provide a quick fix.

The real cause of the problem lies with the PAP & the only solution has to start from there.

we advertise heavily on pay-per-click ads and most of the time it is these indian ft baboons that click on our ads to apply for a job. nobody else does that except them. so we are paying money for these idiots to send their junk resumes to us.

when such instance occurs, we would normally call them for few subsequent interviews to be done by our any of our colleagues that have the most time on hand.

Why else would Hays urge further recruitment of FTs - which one provides a bigger commission? Local hires or FTs with their full "packages"?

Which recruitment consultancy would ever recommend not recruiting more?

If the game was one where locals get paid more than FTs, obviously they would recommend hiring more locals.

Just look at the Gulf countries with their various local hires drives - "Emiratisation" and "Qatarisation" initiatives - locals are guaranteed higher salaries for just turning up so recruiters there are hungry for local hires because they can negotiate higher fees from employers.

The challenge in these countries are typically locals prefer government jobs. Look in Qatar - last year announcing 60% and 120% increase in salaries for locals only.

So what happened in the Qatari private sector? Lan lan they also have to raise salaries of locals only.

KPKB like or not those who work harder and longer have to suck it up along with the increase in inflation.

Besides, anyone who has to work with the same recruiters on a management level would know that they will produce whatever the mandate requires them to - if the initiative is to show that the current employees are paid in accordance to "market" norms or overpaid (for the sale of cost cutting) they will find a way to do so.

Just compare a number of salary surveys done by these companies and speak to those actually in employ in the various industries and more often than not you end of scratching your head wondering who can actually earn that much with those types of perks. A lot of the feedback is also dependent on responses received - the natural instinct is to lie to you can raise the bar of salary scales for that industry.

The whole industry is self-serving and ultimately unless you are a quants whiz with years of experience and true blood recognized international management experience, the elusive package will remain elusive.
