A 17-year-old has been sentenced to 21 months' probation for forcing his 14-year-old female friend to perform oral sex on him.

The offence happened at a staircase landing in Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 in 2008.

The boy, who has a low IQ of 73, had three accomplices, then aged 12 to 15, who have all been accused of the same crime.

The Straits Times reported that a Community Court heard that the boy and his three male friends used to hang out with the victim and her best friend at the void deck after school.

When one of the boys was rejected by the victim, the accused hatched a plan to trick the girl into succumbing to them.

The girl's best friend used to frequent a Chinese temple where she allegedly saw people possessed by "Chinese gods and ghosts".

Between February and April 2008, the four boys pretended to be possessed by these ghosts and scared the victim into complying with their instructions.

A local news report said the boys told her that the "Chinese god of hell" would hurt her and all her friends if she did not perform oral sex on them.

Sometime in March or April 2008, the group met at a staircase landing where the victim's best friend was sent away to get some money.

The boys then pretended to be possessed and made the victim perform oral sex on each of them.

According to court papers, the victim said she suffered serious trauma after the incident. She had to seek professional help to deal with her depression, anxiety and insomnia.

Defence lawyer Lee Teck Leng said his client was not the "ring leader" and was only "acting on instructions", according to a local news report.

He said the boy has a low IQ, which puts his intelligence at the "borderline range". A psychiatric assessment showed he was "vulnerable to the influence of negative peers".

Mr Lee pointed out that people with low IQ may not fully comprehend the illegality and seriousness of what they are doing, in his plea for leniency.

The boy also has to carry out 150 hours of community service with three months' stay at the Boys' Home.

His parents have to post a bond of S$5,000 to ensure his good behaviour.

The other boys are awaiting to be sentenced.
