Excerpts of Good Postings by SBF forummers.

QUOTE

There is no such thing as "developed". It is a continous process. Even developed countries have to keep moving to avoid stagnation and stagflation.

The aim of most govt is ensure that the economy has an acceptable unemployment rate. The issue is not the poor. The issue is that there are people looking for work but unable to get it. Education and managing the economy has be joined at the hips. Skills must meet industry needs. It appears there is skills mismatch. People are going to Poly and Universities are finding it difficult to hold to their jobs past the age of 40. The younger ones are outbid by cheaper labour.

These are serious structural issues and keen minds are needed by the Govt. The Govt cannot blame everything on the people. Why else form a govt?

Bro, hanging flowers is a sickness! Some chaps can't sleep at night without calling manager of HFJ to hang flowers for their targets in their absence. It is all in the mind. A pussy is a pussy. Most of these singers were 'running tables' back home before coming here as singers. Some were even full-time chickens in China. Once they become singers, their standing improves. All part of packaging.

HFJs started with the Thais. The Chinese HFJs here have been around for at least 10-15 years. Teow huay will lead to teow arm (hanging) for the not-so-rich chaps who die die must hang flower. It is a disease, a sickness. I know of people who take from ah long to hang flowers!

1. MRT Congestion
2. Housing problem
3. Hospital beds shortage
4. Unemployment of locals
5. Increased suicide rate
6. Unhappiness of citizens
7. Road congestion
8. High ERP rates without easing traffic congestion
9. Bus crowdedness
10. National Service for locals, jobs for foreigners
11. PAP running out of idea how to promote economic growth but having to resort to vices such as gambling.
12. Increased social problems and integration due to high influx of cheap, unskilled and unqualified migrant laboour with their 3rd world social behaviour and lawlessness

Are these signs of the crumbling of Singapore? The pap appears to run out of ideas how to bring SG forward but is taking the obvious easy ways out, bringing long term problems to SG.

The underlying thinking of the PAP is that whatever they are doing, they are doing it for the good of Singapore. Singaporeans happen to be just people living in Singapore. They are expendable resources. If necessary, they can and will be sacrificed for the greater good of Singapore.

As a result of this thinking, we now have a Singapore with skyscapers, highways and other imposing impressive physical infrastructure. We have reserves which are reportedly so huge that they are the eny of many countries. We however also have many poor Singaporeans who have a living standard which is below many in Third World countries. The annual UBS study shows that on average, the purchasing power of Singapore wages is roughly equivalent to Russia. The average Malaysian living in KL enjoys wages which have higher purchasing power that the average Singaporean.

The PAP idealogy is that MNCs and foreigners are good for Singapore. They therefore pursue extreme policies to court them. It does not matter that these policies are implemented at the expense of Singaporeans. For example to sustain ridiculously low corporate tax rates, we have ever higher GST. They give all expense paid scholarships for foreign children to attend university in the limited number of university places. At the same time, they will deny Singaporean children the chance to go to university and send them to get a second class Poly diploma.

In the eyes of the PAP, it all makes perfect sense. This is because they are working for the good of Singapore rather than for the good of Singaporeans.

I don't think our problem is that of 50% not wanting to work but choosing to depend on the remaining 50% for charity due to the so-called "averaging of reward". What I see is more a case of 90% sweating it out, only to get 10% of the pie while the remaining 10% gets to keep 90% (of course I have exaggerated). At the end, each peasant gets next to peanut, not enough to pay for transport and meals. As such, some got fed up and quit working for good. Unfortunately, there are also the lazy ones which become a good excuse for people to conclude that the poor are too lazy to work which is why they will remain poor.

The distribution of wealth (salary) is just too lopsided. I will have no complains if that 10% are really talented and deserving, helping to churn more economic activities for the good of all. Unfortunately, many are just mediocre who happened to be there because of connection, porlumpar, etc Ah soh "Saw" immediately comes to mind when I was thinking for an example. To make matter worse, cheap FT were brought in. My guess is we need a depression (which I hope is after my time) for things to be set in the right course again.

To cut a long story short, employees in Singapore cannot go on strike by law. As a result they have very little power or leverage. Those that feel shortchanged, will leave other companies or other trades. If it become systemic and structural, the govt will be thrown out as can be seen by the results of this years GE and PE. Most telling was the minority President and it was in the 30%.

Outright capitalism will fail. Isn't it any surprise that the most developed countries are a combination of capitalism and socialism.

Most people generally are motivated to work. Its only a minority that is the issue.

Which rational person would want to be poor and receive handouts. Everyone is keen to own a house and enjoy life and he certainly can't achieve that by being poor. Who then are the poor. Let me guess, - structural employment displacement, illness, lack of education and training, economy not well managed and demand for labour and management skills are not there etc. So what is the role of the govt? - hold cabinet meetings and then call it a day.

There are many excesses in the developed world's welfare and support structure and I will the first to see these gone. But base acceptable standards must exist.

Here is a good example that came up for discussion some 10 months ago in a local think tank setup.

A hawker 20 years ago with hard work and with a little bit of risk taking is able to move to a bigger shop, possibly a private shophouse and eventually buy it. He might be even be able to set up a few branches.

20 years later, in view of Singapore's limited land stock, private commercial properties for such an enterprising hawker will likely to be in hands of GLC such as Mapletree, Fraser Properties etc. The rent will be very high and the tenure no longer 5 + 5 + 5 but 2+2. The hawker choice is limited to rundown properties that are now poorly maintained, low traffic or patronised by consumers with little spending money such as Katong Shopping Centre.

This country does not belong to the PAP or its cronies. Do get fooled by them claiming that a hardworking individual has all the opportunities available to them to advance just like any other individual. Thats bullshit.

As for the assine argument about high taxation punishing the successful, nothing can be less true. The few very self made people I've met are successful because of their intrinsic motivation. Never have I met a person who was successful yet decided to be less so because he was being a mean little person and thinking that the poor are poor because they deserve it. And frankly, when you start thinking someone who is unable to hold down a regular job and feed his family is somehow beneath you - like that "get out of my uncaring, elite face" scandal many years ago, its time to take a deep breath and do some introspection.

Economics by the way is classified as a social science and concerned with the efficient distribution of resources primarily. Enterprise is the engine of growth. Communism and socialism have no place in society as they have been truly discredited.

What we are looking for is a just society is for each man to contribute his fair share. If there is a growing imbalance is society where wealth and resources are increasingly accumulated at one tiny end, we must surely br negligent or incompetent not to realise its dangers.

Despite the above, there will always be a small minority that will fall thru the cracks, some as result of their own doing and some by misfortune. We cannot pretend that they do not exist and we have a duty of care to look after them.

No is suggesting that they get $1k a month, free housing and transport concession. Let's provide a minimum where dignity is not lost and where there are young involved, let's attempt to invest in them.

So far, there has been a lot of political showmanship with regard to the policy failures. All these appear to be designed to show the PAP was listening intently to the people and working furiously to resolve the problems. As the SMRT breakdowns have shown, there is however very little actual progress being made.

Don't think TCB will take part in party politics unless it is in a PAP spin off. Not in his character to go head on with his ex-party. Many of his PE supporters are probably still pro-PAP, I would say two-thirds of his voters at this time at least. Against another party yes they will support him.

TJS being no KJ doesn't mean he is LTK or CSM either. Honestly, it is not so difficult not to be KJ. But before people really knew KJ, they thought him to be like TJS now, and people are now beginning to see TJS for what he is as well, though TJS will never reach KJ's level. It is open info that Jeannette Aruldoss and Nicole Seah confidently stated that they will not leave their party. Why would they be so confident? Because they are not even perceiving any combo with him as a do-or-die thing, and not having him around is a political loss that must be avoided at all costs. They are friends though. None in SDP want to leave their parties for him either. That's the kind of pull or attraction TJS has? If TJS gives way and joins any party, he would still lose the bargaining power to negotiate any form of alliance.

The PAP is like a football team that has been playing games with the game such that players do not want to play for them. They have run their course on moral ground. In doing so, they have alienated themselves from a large pool of bright, socially responsible citizens. All that they can attract are the power mongers and the bottom of the barrel types. The PAP is an organization that has lost its moral bearings and they know it. What they proceed on is by working with like-minded fools who have to interest in the country other than to pillage it to the best of their wants and greed.

There are other issues, and if the lifespan and amortization of the rail was considered together with economic loss to the country and businesses you know the answer. There is an inherent design problem from the beginning due to poor understanding of cheap. Stupid people have zero understanding of the value of money and thus history repeats itself. I told you Singapore would collapse systemwise by yearend. There will be a few more serious systemic failures of 2-3 other major infrastructures. ISD and PMO reading this should seriously solve those time bombs soon. Allthe accolades are scheduled for one tombstone fall at a match near you on pay-per-view. My intuitive sense of technical systems is quite accurate. hehehehehe. I have always said that terrorism in Singapore will not be from without but from within and from the most unlikely of sources to most. You are seeing them and these individuals are far more destructive than any Osama bin Laden. Rather than employ the best in understanding and solving problems, they hired mercenary cocksuckers. We are now seeing the classic case of " I did not have sex with that woman"

More to come. I foresee another 3-5 major infrastructural problem cropping up. Theses were systemic problems waiting to happen. The timing is about right now. BTW, the people who could have solved and whistleblew have been removed. You only left with cocksuckers. LKY, you lose.

I told u guys it would crumble by yearend. I have great intuitive predictive powers on systems operations. More to come. Next will be the telecoms system.

CPF is a provident fund by design. To buy compulsory annuities means it has become a pension fund. Same for the health components. You can call CPF a pirate fund for the PAP. They have crossed all lines and want to test how chicken Singaporeans really are.

Opposition politics gives you very little and demands a lot. But after having seen and felt two GE's , I can understand the call of the crowd, the attraction of campaigning , the adoration of the masses, the cheering faces for those at the very sharp end of the spear, and it can be a rush that can be very hard to put down.

He has given much and lost much for the opposition especially in Tampines and the NSP. I can understand the reluctance to see that "Investment" degrade in value in the face of a resurgent and dominant WP and perhaps for that Investment to be forgotten and consigned to a footnote in Singapore's Political History like PKMS.

For me Opposition politics whether as a helper, researcher , or candidate is something that one should be willing to Invest your life in but get very very little or nothing in return.

lets be practical, politics at some point is about each person using another, sustainment and teamwork happens not only because some people give freely expecting nothing but also because some people give everything and more expecting something. Its for me always a wonder how within this bitching, backstabbing, competing chaos of interests , that at some point some good for Singapore as a whole emerges out of this fucking morass of competition,

I have tried to explain his rather silly actions and words( many of which I disagree with ) ever since GE 2011 in the context of personal events in his life in this year . I have chosen to think positively of his contribution and I will remember his efforts for the cause of the opposition for the WP and for the NSP.

Ramseth on GMS and M-K GRC

QUOTE

NSP did have the intention to keep contesting M-K, that I could see for myself. However, there was no such thing as sending one of their best teams with any winning chance here because there were none until the 11th hour RP defection to NSP.

WP called the bluff and NSP wisely backed off but unwisely come back to gripe over it. However, the old RP new NSP team also scoring above 40% in Marine Parade gave GMS the impression that if that team was sent to M-K, they could have won or at least score higher than WP.

Don't think it's such a simple comparison and equation. In M-K 2011, the Malay vote swing to Rahizan was so heavy that even Yaacob was stunned. Rahizan volunteered to back out of Aljunied and helm WP M-K team of newbies, unlike what GMS thought he was demoted. The reason was Faizal was his good friend and Rahizan believed Aljunied could be won (and it was) with Faizal. Rahizan had also contested Jalan Besar (now M-K) under SDA in 2001.

elephanto on GMS:

After 6 pages, the only delusional writer, despite his copious paragraphs, is bereft of political sense & like a scatchy repeating record sounds nauseating.'WP puts party interest above national interest...'' they shoud have gone into MP, natural blah blah' still s insistent.I have retain some last regard for GMS because he believes in some ideals. But this thread and his posts have totally bankrupted his credibility.Poor in public speaking can let go.But the pseudo arguments from him - grandiose motherhood statements but absurd vis-vis reality - , expose his political lunacy, not even naivette.Yet he still feel pleased with his 'insights' and 'intepretation' and basks in his own obstinacy. The greatest tragedy in life is when one's grasp of reality is actually far removed from actual reality.Delusion and self justification, all the rest of his press statement sounds good but is utterly hollow.Last word: GMS, listen to Sin KEk Tong's parting short when he finally decided to exit politics: ... Perhaps I am really not good enough ....
