Do the opposition parties have the abilities to win the PAP in the future elections?

Do you all think there will be a chance when opposition parties such as workers' party can win PAP in the votes in future elections? will there be such a day?

i seriously doubt so. in the post independence days in the 60s and 70s opposition parties barisan socialist can be on par with the PAP. but then during that time PAP is the not dominatig party and sg is still under developed.

however now, PAP have the poltical legitimacy to govern sg

share ur views on the prospects of oppsoition parties here

IMHOP, I don't think we will ever have enough ppl in the opposition to be able to contest and win the required seats to form a new govt.

Sad but true after all these years!:(

We can only hope. Still the best thing is for the opposition to have people with the passion and desire to serve. Once the people see that they will be won over. Also it would help if the opposition had a vision of a future singapore.

The WAYANG PARTY is not interested in opposing, only in PAP boot-licking and getting into PAP's good books. Why do u think Low thia khiang gave a passing grade to PAP, Sylvia Lim said PAP's laws are fair and just, and Yaw shin leong openly bragged about voting PAP?

In reality the PAP has groomed the sham opposition WAYANG PARTY to be its stooge so as to check on the real opposition like SDP and prevent the growth of true democracy in SG.

If the WAYANG PARTY gains support, it will only erode what other real oppositions have done and instil further PAP dominance. the only solution is to stage a TOTAL BOYCOTT of the WP and spoil your vote if WP contests to send a strong message to BOTH PAP AND WP that wayang politics is not to be tolerated.

I fully agree on the Wayang Party points. Just like alot of the countries opposition parties, they are there for fame, greed, and personal reasons. How many do really care for the people? They argue and debate for the sake of opposing. Why? To make them look different!

Only those who really feel and have desire to serve will win the hearts of the people!

Seriously I don't think there will be any serious opposition is the general public is just comfortable with the way things are being run.

Change comes from the people and the people don't want to change, there will be no change.

My feeling is that while Singaporeans are unhappy with some of the recent government policies eg. GST, ERP, FT etc., they are simply resigned to the fact that there will be no alternative government. They will continue to vent their frustrations and unhappiness by voting the opposition because this is their only legitimate means of `getting back' at the government.

But don't under-estimate the sentiments of the younger voters who are more educated, well-travelled and internet savvy. They have the `me-first' mentality and have no qualms about voting the opposition unlike people in our parent's generation who were conditioned under a climate of fear to believe that no one should go aginst the PAP. Look at what happened in Malaysia in the recent polls this year. This could also happen in Singapore. One or two GRCs may be won over by the opposition. Only then will PAP wake up and listen to people.

It will be a glorious day in Singapore history when that happens . But I bet certain GRCs will have their boarders changed when the time comes.
