<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Mr Tan Mien Wee's letter yesterday, 'Now that it's over, what about them?'.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry shares Mr Tan's concern about the lower business volume in Suntec City Mall during the 2008 Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix last month.
It has always been an important aspect in the organisation of this event to ensure business continuity in the Marina Bay area, and minimise inconvenience caused to those who use the area. That is why we formed a multi-agency committee led by the Singapore Tourism Board to engage stakeholders in the vicinity of the circuit park. Since November last year, the committee has held numerous discussions with the various stakeholder committees to understand their needs and requests.
Some issues resolved by the committee in the lead-up to the event include the facilitation of carpark and taxi access to Suntec City during the road closure period, and the operation of a complimentary shuttle service to ferry members of the public to Suntec City. The various stakeholders also played their part to draw in the crowds by launching race-related promotions and arranging additional shuttle services.
Following the inaugural race, we continue to actively engage all stakeholders, including those in the Marina Bay area, to obtain feedback and assess how we can improve next year. For instance, there were newspaper reports that shops in other shopping precincts such as the Orchard Road area enjoyed an increase in business during the race period because of the increased tourist traffic coming to Singapore. We will look into how this positive effect can be extended to the Marina Bay area by leveraging on its proximity to the circuit park, to attract race goers to shop and dine before and after the race.
We assure Mr Tan that the various government agencies and the organisers are committed to work hand-in-
hand with the stakeholders to maximise the benefits of this event. Lim Bee Khim (Ms)

F1 race had brought billions to singapore.

Suntex city retailers may be telling lies and want extra restitutions.

The whole orchard shopping belt was racking in by the millions in every shop.

Dont believe, ask your friends.

The whole F1 was a big success, billions and billions hit singapore streets like nothing.

You mean you dont feel it at all.

Moniker Makapaa, you should be rich now becos of F1.

All the uncles and aunties have big money to play shares becos of F1.

Suntex city was a boom during the race, i think some retailers must be selling the wrong things

I think the Pees are the one who tell lies that this event will sure earn high profit
if got earn high profit, then now petrol price drop bt the electric tariff & public transport fare still increase. the taxi fuel surcharge also never remove.

maybe to them, they already achieve objective of boasting to the world that sg look like a carnival with ferris wheel, clowns & animals to entertain visitors. but so far, havent justify the profit margin.

as usual, they always talk things on paper that havent materialize.

in simple words; counting the chicken b4 they hatch

Every Singaporean also wants to sell some valueless stuff to make it big. Valueless.
