Losing one GRC not "disaster" for S'pore: Lee Kuan Yew

Now he realised losing one GRC is indeed not a disaster at all.
This is contradicting what he said when he was the PM - voting in a opposition is detrimental to Singapore future.

Lau buay si thought that was a blessing in disguise. Hope that he'll live long enough to see pap becomes the oppo party after GE2016.

Are you saying that there will be no 4th Generation PM for Kee Chiu but Opposition leader instead?

LKY was just going for damage control and saving face. Before GE, he kept warning (or rather threatening) voters that Singapore couldn't afford a GRC fallen to opposition. Right after nomination when it was confirmed that LTK was standing alongside Sylvia and CSM, he started saying that losing a GRC was no big deal. He's still no fool and not senile. Just that LTK outwitted him and called his bluff successfully. The moment TV broadcast in my nomination centre confirmed LTK was standing in Aljunied GRC at the other nomination centre, old man was crestfallen. All signs on his face read, conceded defeat.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE: Singapore's former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew does not think a more populist form of government would have to emerge as a result of the general election in May.

Replying to questions on Singapore's political scene at the Russia-Singapore Business Forum, Mr Lee said losing one group representation constituency (GRC) is not a disaster for the country.

He believes it's a change in mood among the electorate and much will depend on the performance of the opposition.

Mr Lee said the electorate has decided to bring competition to the political scene and unless the competition is good, he does not think the trend would continue.

He said an opposition victory in an area is not a given, and it would depend on how the opposition behaves and the government responds.

On another question to relax conditions to give permanent resident status, Mr Lee said for the time being the government has to go slow on this, because Singaporeans don't want to find strange faces around them.

But he feels the situation may change when Singaporeans grow older and need people to look after them, like nurses, and that's when views of admitting foreigners would change.

LKY is wrong ..Singaporeans don't have the means to hire foreigners to look after them in their old age.

If these are the exact words from LKY, obviously he is getting very old. I cannot imagine him saying this in his youth, even when he is outsmarted by both the opposition and Tin Tin girl.
I doubt the Opposition will get another GRC. PAP is still doing an excellent job - in the minds of the rakyats.

But the long term goal of Singapore is immigrants and more immigrants to replace the rakyats.

To put it bluntly, LKY is the disaster today. If you balance the costs and gains today, he is the root of disaster. You take away the human factor and go back to 1970s, yes he generated some overall value, albeit overly exaggerated for political capital. Well, dead lost souls sacrificed is done almost worldwide.
Now, he is pure liability. All the funds stashed away is worth nothing in the first place if a proper functioning system is not in place here. And it is more than just the seedy bookkeeping.

A Political Coward ?

SINGAPORE: A collection of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's speeches, interviews and dialogues over four decades has been launched on Friday.

Published by Cengage Learning, it is drawn from the collections of the National Archives of Singapore, as well as materials deposited over time from the office of the Press Secretary to Mr Lee, and the former Singapore Broadcasting Corporation.

It's also taken from agencies such as the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

Cengage Learning said the intent of publishing the collection is to give readers a better understanding of Mr Lee's role in the founding and development of modern Singapore.

Areas covered include Mr Lee's views and statements on Singapore's separation from the Federation of Malaysia, independence, Singapore's nation-building process and leadership succession.

Speaking at the launch of 'The Papers of Lee Kuan Yew', Mr Lee said whether for reflection or scrutiny, the papers capture issues and decisions that were both popular and unpopular, but necessary for the time.

And the compilation of his speeches may allow Singaporeans to understand the history in nation building, and more importantly to learn the lessons from the past.

He stressed that Singaporeans have to understand the underlying values on which the nation was built.

Many of the interviews in the publication are being released for the first time.

The 10 volumes cover more than 5,000 pages of text and nearly 500 photographs.

In his foreword, former US Secretary of State Dr Henry Kissinger wrote: "The volumes are an indispensable source for the thinking of one of the seminal thinkers of our period."

The collection is available in a case-bound edition at US$2,800, and a leather bound limited edition at US$3,600.

The next series of Mr Lee's works will cover his term as Senior Minister to the present, and is planned for release in the last quarter of next year.

He's AFRAID of the new gen to paint him as a fascist pig leader Napoleon and place him in The Hall of Shame while the late Goh Keng Swee and Lim Chin Siong will be awarded as pioneer and martyr status in The Hall of Fame to boo him.

He wants his legacy to survive as long as possible though many of us know of what he did in the past - his sins. He's afraid of death ? He's even more afraid of his name being 'tarnished' by 'his own people' instead ? Death awaits us all. But, there's one type of death that is far damaging and destructive than death itself.

I'm not saying but I'm hoping and praying that there will be a day after GE2016 oppo is the ruling party.

That day is coming soon. When traitors and their dogs cannot see where their actions are taking us... down the drain, the end cannot be but nearer.

The "disaster" is at hand when the PAP changes not.

Every Ministry is run like a private company with profit in mind. But every private govt link organization is run like a govt department with top down control. How not to get into serious trouble?

Many common Singaporeans do not like the above. We will have to wait for another 5 years to exercise our voting rights and teach those employers using top down control a lesson

Next election, one-mega sized GRC--all 80 pus MPs in one GRC led by TPL.

That would be putting too many eggs in one basket. Some eggs might drop off or the basket might overturn.

Naturally, he wouldnt be including speeches which will contradict what he believes in now. E.g those legislative assembly speeches in 1955-58 where he was in the Opp bench, esp his stand on ISA, press freedom, democracy etc.

Neither would he include speeches where he had to made defensively against Marshall, W Goode in 1955 over the Hock Lee Riots.

if PAP continues in this way who knows Low Thia Khiang will be the next PM and Sylvia Lim will be the first female DPM in Singapore?
