The Government is considering new laws to curb remote gambling, said Second Minister for Home Affairs S. Iswaran on Thursday.

Among these new laws are measures to block access to gambling websites, block payments to remote gambling operators and prohibit advertisements promoting remote gambling, which "can potentially become a source or conduit of funds for other illegal activities and syndicated crime".

Enforcement agencies will also be able to act against facilitators, intermediaries and providers of such services, said Mr Iswaran, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, at the launch of the third Symposium on Casino Regulation and Crime at the Police Cantonment Complex.

While he acknowledged these measures "may not be foolproof", he added: "They will impede access to remote gambling platforms and send a clear signal of the regulatory stance in Singapore."

YES!!! it is timely!!! many naive and young singaporeans are into this cyber gambling of all sorts!!!

i went once to cyber vegas and i played a few " free games" and i won so easily!!!

i was then tempted to play for real and i bought US$200 of chips...yes, it was so easy to win....

but them very quickly, i LOST ALL .....and that was the first and the last time i would ever play on line again...NEVER!!!

but now i go to our two wonderful resorts for my past-time entertainment. at one of my sessions, when i striked a feature with plenty of noise and sound, i suddenly found a syt prc sitting besides me....and she very quickly came close to me and congratulated me...and the rest is HISTORY!!!!!!!!

Curb remote gambling but encouraging gambling in IR Genting and MBS.
what is the rationale behind this?
PAP $ face and wants to collect SGD100 entrance fee.

PAP want people to gamble in IR and horse run by Singapore pool to enrich themselves.

REMOTE GAMBLING is more sinister and more clandestine
our two wonderful IRS are more open and more friendly
nothing to hide...most of the time, i go in and enjoy myself
very entertaining these two IRS!!! HUAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i would rather donate my money to our IRs than to donate elsewhere....
the money donated is farmed back into our economy...win win situation for singapore!!!!

Wow! I am so impressed, my government is looking after me, my family & my neighbors....all these foreign gambling sites need to do is to pay ourdear government fees & that will be ok! under their control! & looking after you.

How about neighborhood & supermarket gambling?? you can find pools outlets near you, no need remote, you go buy groceries at a supermarket near you...you already have GAMBLING.

On line sites do not pay taxes...or licensing fees...I am so glad that my government is looking after me & I am never left behind or without a behind!

as long as money is being circulated within our own economy
it is okay..
one hundred donation entrance fee is chicken for gamblers!
they can easily pong!!! at one go at the table or at the slot!!!

no sweat!!!
they should increase the entrance fees to $500!!!
and remove the annual privileged levy!!!!

why target remote gambling outlets when the government welcomes foreign workers to Singapore that steal our lunches?

ginger dear
again, that is another separate issue
we are talking about remote cyber gambling
which is fast becoming a big big problem
young kids and school kids are getting all these even in their FB!!!!
the problem is a real problem for these young and gullible ones
certainly not an issue for those seasoned and experienced gamblers
our wonderful government saw this threat to our young
so we better nip it before it becomes an addiction and big problem for our people
cyber gambling is evil, remote gambling is evil....if you want to entertain yourself, go to our two world class IRs!!!

you are right sir
but the money goes to our singapore pools
and the money is farmed back to help the poor, the needy and the sick
you are doing a favour and a donation everytime you punt in singapore of course
why lose all your money in other countries
charity begins at home - right here in singapore
play singapore pools and give jobs to the many uncles and aunties at the counters
and sometimes give hope to the cleaners too....some form of entertainment and hope....

Could gambling habit of LKY's father has anything to do with him saying casinos would be allowed in Singapore only “over my dead body.”?

In one of LKY's book:

In another source: Singapore Infopedia
Lee's gambling habit put strains on his relationship with his wife. He would gamble at the Chinese Swimming Club and at times return home in an angry mood, demanding jewellery from his wife to pawn for more funds to continue.
Note: Lee is Lee Chin Koon, father of Lee Kuan Yew

For whatever reason only known to old fart himself, he started to build not one, but two casinos.

It is no different from a person whose love ones abuses drug, but he himself has became a drug lord just because of money.
So, is such person a man of integrity and great man worthy of praises?

Only blind and retarded sycophants are singing praises of old fart.

So is the banning of online sg gambling sites like sg pools included or allowed? So is the logic employed the same as that of the opening of legal brothels they still need to have some for of gambling around if not ppl will turn desperate.
