SINGAPORE - For over a year, a young girl on Twitter called on others to rape Ms Nicole Seah, even revealing the location of her workplace.

In an exclusive interview with MyPaper following a much-talked-about Facebook post in which she bared her soul, the 27-year-old opposition-party member said: "At first, I was really freaked out. But a lot of things are said on the Internet, so I stopped being so bothered."

Ms Seah, who is on three months' leave of absence from the National Solidarity Party for health reasons, also had to deal with a female stalker.

For two weeks late last year, she would return home to find barely coherent handwritten letters on scraps of paper left on her Housing Board flat's doorstep.

One day, the stalker left a photocopy of her own identity card, which Ms Seah used to report the woman to the police. The stalker stopped harassing her soon after.

These were just some of the threats Ms Seah alluded to on Saturday in her Facebook post, which has attracted more than 4,000 likes and was shared more than 1,000 times.

In it, she described her struggles in the two years after the 2011 General Election, which she contested.

They included relationship woes, job troubles, her grandmother's cancer diagnosis and the exhaustion of balancing a day job with house visits and walkabouts. She also admitted to the "terrible, irreversible mistake" of lobbying for presidential hopeful Tan Jee Say in 2011.

She did not want to comment when asked whether she felt she had swayed votes away from Dr Tan Cheng Bock, who lost to the current president, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, by a razor-thin margin.

"I didn't realise the kind of influence I could have on people. They were coming up to me to say they supported him because of me," she told MyPaper.

Health-wise, Ms Seah has some way to go. Her hands shook as she ate her lunch yesterday, which she said was a sign that she has not recovered completely.

Ms Seah did not want to disclose the nature of her illness. But she said she has to be on medication for at least one more year.

But she has something to look forward to: a new job. Ms Seah, who is working temporarily at an advertising agency, has accepted a job with another firm.

She conceded that she took a huge risk writing the post by "putting (her) reputation on the line". But she is glad that the response has been "overwhelmingly positive", with many Facebook users leaving her encouraging comments.

"People felt they are not alone in their struggles," she said.

The 60.1% made the right choice of not voting for her! Well done.
Tin Pei Ling is the one who will serve Singapore better!

Singapore politicians are too soft, that is why you need PAP support.

What happened to Nicole just reflects the culture of Singaporeans to fear the more powerful. Why did Tin Pei Ling or Lily Neo not receive rape threats.

Apparently those who issued the rape threats were opposition supporters with misplaced lesbian obsession. The same girl claims to support the opposition but lampooned Angela Oon for her "affair". Seems that when opposition supporters turn against the opposition, they are somehow harder on opposition than they ever were on the PAP.

It's the same when the bunch of Hougang shopkeepers decided to bully WP after swallowing the same thing PAP did to them for years. Same for GMS who goes hardest on NSP followed by WP followed by PAP when he claims to be "opposition".

The culture in Singapore is a big failure. Singaporeans are a big failed inferior human species, including myself, including those who claim to stand like migrated outsiders like Leongsam, Tonychat and GMS. That's all I can say.

All part of the "establishment mentality".
Also can be seen when kuailan sinkies who refuse to queue or quarrel with their fellow heartlanders at the drop of a hat, suddenly turn all demure and weak at the knees when their MP or some so-called "bigshot" in their eyes walk by.

This failure in culture stems from the har, errr, establishment mentality, which started with one person and his mythical "exceptional family members".
And bytheway, there are different levels of failures, so keep your chin up.

Lower level of failure, if you can manage to recognise the former establishment henchman, who didn't make a sound when they were serving their masters and bullying ordinary singaporeans, and after they got their supposed monetary rewards, started to kpkb because their rewards fell short of what others got. Some even claim to keep mistresses with their pensions, which is afterall still public money.

Or you mean ex-guard dogs, is it?

Don't these dogs know they will not be fed indefinitely on Imperial Dog food. Afterall, once they have served their purpose, they are just chucked aside to scavenger their own food.

But new dogs are ever so eager to serve. And some serve just becos they are offered a cup of kopi!

Is it they have their improved the quality of the Imperial brand? LoL

It will continue to be on ongoing cycle, until the establishment mentality is eradicated from our dna, which could take decades.

It fascinates me to observe the antics of different generations of establishment henchmen here.

You have the younger eagerbeaver types (mainly not too bright grateful gongkias) who are totally oblivious that they will be discarded like old clothing when they are deemed no longer useful, and you also have the older disillusioned types who now kpkb because they realised their rewards fell short of some of their compatriots, but were happy to serve their masters when it suited them.

Quality of the imperial brand? Still shitty...........................

Lovely Nicole doesn't need Prozac or other medicine
What she needs is Captain Picard to order her around
To rescue her from the abyss of emotions run wild
Passion without discipline is a recipe for disaster
