[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Third 6.9 million population white paper protest – 5 October at 4pm Hong Lim Park “We Want Change” [/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]We are organising a third population white paper protest on 5th October at 4pm Hong Lim Park –We Want Change.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]The Prime Minister has completely sidestepped the grievances of the people by not mentioning a word of the 6.9 million population white paper in his recent national day rally speech – despite the unprecedented show of displeasure at the previous two massive protests against the white paper.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Worse of all, to add salt to the wound, the government introduced the contentious internet law to curb open discussion on the web after the two massive protests by the people.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]During this period, our people continued to suffer immensely from low wages and recently there are reports suggesting that the recent huge influx of foreigners has dampened our wages.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]About 340, 000 Singaporeans earn $2000 and below and many struggle to make ends meet in a country that has an inflation rate of close to 4% for the past one year.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]There is also an increase in molest cases on our jam-packed MRT trains and Singaporeans suffer the nightmare of having to ride in it twice daily.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Specifically, we want the government to back down on the 6.9 million white paper and introduce minimum wage so that our low-waged workers can earn a decent living.[/FONT] [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]We also want the government to disallow PRs to purchase second-hand HDB flats as they are the main cause for the doubling of flat pricing in six years. Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said new citizens have to shoulder the obligations and responsibilities of being a Singaporean even as they enjoy the benefits and privileges.

SINGAPORE: Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said new citizens have to shoulder the obligations and responsibilities of being a Singaporean even as they enjoy the benefits and privileges.


Speaking to 132 new Singaporeans at the national citizenship ceremony on Saturday morning, Mr Goh said they now share a common future with other fellow Singaporeans.


He encouraged them to consider how they can as part of the Singapore family build a better home by caring for and strengthening the relationships between the people living in the home.


He urged the new citizens to reach out to fellow Singaporeans as they are also likely to appreciate and reciprocate.


At the same time, Mr Goh called on other Singaporeans to help new citizens integrate and adjust to their new home.


He said new Singaporeans should take the initiative to involve themselves in community events and activities.
They can play a part by volunteering with grassroots and civil society organisations.


About 3,600 other new citizens would also be affirming their commitment to Singapore at ceremonies across the island this weekend.

Thanks for posting this. I spent some time reading the article. It's a great tragedy that the ones that fight for their rights are foreign trashes, and this is not even their home country. Sinkees on the other hand keep voting for the evil and greedy pappies, years after years, despite being screwed for decades. If the pappies scums are not voted out, the future generations of Sinkees will be the one that suffer most.

Speakers sometimes really dont make too much sense...like someone babbling away at a coffee shop..
It really doesn't tell you how to move forward from here. While the logistics of getting pple there settingu up a tent is done, the hosting, speeches part is smörgåsbord of complaints ....and old battles,
one speaker spent much time on anti speak mandarin campaign another on some irrelevant topic ...some were misunderstanding of govt policies rather that legitimate grievances.

At least he is doing something. He keeps this up, he will be a thorn in the government's side. When you can get a few thousand Singaporeans to gather every now and then, it does show that there is a group of discontent Singaporeans out there, and the government is not solving anything. This is a major step forward for civil rights, especially in Singapore, where the government has utilised a combination of subtle propaganda, social engineering and authoritarian laws to cower the populace. I've invited friends to join me at the protests, and some turn me down as they are afraid of being caught by ang bai, and they are law abiding citizens.
