Auto car drivers,
during stopping at traffic lights for 2-3mins
1)do you guys just step on the brake
2)pull handbrake with gear still in drive mode
3)switch to park mode with both leg free
4)switch to neutral gear with handbrake on

I'm afraid Singapore drivers are very lucky and do not experience more than 1 minute traffic red lights. Come Bangkok there are so many 2 minutes really loooooong traffic lights. I've even experienced 6 minutes. Sigh.

do they still have traffic cops standing in booths pressing and messing with the traffic lights? last time i was there, i was in 1 junction for more than 10 mins.

was curious with the booth, got out of the car, went to check inside and there was this cop in uniform pressing buttons!

Bro, have you ever driven through the Guillemard Road / Mountbatten Rd Junction during morning peak?
Easily at least a 2 minute waiting time heading towards the city. But I think LTA change the timing every so often to better regulate the traffic.

Always (1). Just step on the brakes, and leave gear on D.

Shifting the gears from D to N and back to D at every stop light puts unnecessary stress on the auto transmission, resulting in greater wear and tear.

Also, for fuel injected engines, it's a myth that putting transmission in neutral saves fuel. It's the opposite: engine idling speed is computer-set to be lower when in gear – whether stationary or coasting – than when in N to prevent stalling, so you actually save more fuel when gear is engaged.

One exception: very long stop times, >5 min. Pull the handbrake, shift to N or P. This is to prevent overheating of the auto transmission.

For a stop as long as 2~3 minutes, will switch to P mode (No. 3), short stop, just No.1

For driving a car, gotten used to auto, will never go back to manual, except for motorbike. These days parking in mall mostly multi-storey parking; don't want to mess with clutch and release gear crap.

Cheers!

Usually 1 but occasionally 4. I am one of those rare few who can't stand auto car. Switched back to manual after 4 years of driving auto.

I'm afraid I have not driven there the past few years. Well now I'm surprised to hear that. Thank you for the information.

i notice many car dealers no longer bring in manual transmission. wonder what will be available when i finally get rid of the current auto transmission car.

Is this some kind of psychological test?

of cos no.
my friend saw me pull handbrake with the gear still in drive mode.i then rest my feet freely.
he say i will damage the transmission.
i in doubt of what he says, but i know sbf got many experts to shed some light

why do all auto car move forward when you release the brake pedal.why cant they be like manual, stay where it is?

It the same for manual.

As long as gear 1 is engage for manual car, it will still move forward when u release the clutch (without stepping on accelerator) . Like auto car, only way for manual car to stay still is to engage neutral.
